Outfits: Daytime Leather

My husband takes my photos (and provides unsolicited commentary on my fashion choices). When he asked what the focal point of this outfit was, I replied the leather pants…of course.  He then suggested that I make the rest of my look more “fancy.”  But, while I certainly can get behind “fancy” attire, it’s just not practical for my everyday life.  Yet, I still want to wear and enjoy special stand-out pieces such as heels, statement earrings, and leather pants.

One of my best friends wears her most favorite and expensive perfume everyday and serves her family their meals on her wedding china…because these things bring her joy.  I try to apply this philosophy to my daily life as well.  This outfit is evidence of that. Don’t reserve a special investment piece for rare occasions.  While these leather pants could easily make a statement with a silk blouse and strappy sandals for a night on the town, they can also be woven into your daily wardrobe.  For the office, wear leather as you would your denim jeans.  Add a blazer for a touch of sophistication and swap heels for your favorite bootie.  For weekend brunch (or even a playdate), pair them with retro sneakers and a slouchy sweater for a downtown cool yet casual look.  Regardless of the occasion, channel your inner Kate Moss and wear your leather pants with confidence!

Friday Favorites: Distressed Denim under $100

6164065427_2_1_1Love the look of faded, broken-in, distressed, ripped, and generally well-loved jeans but not the exorbitant price tag? I’ve been told that the more “work” that goes into detailing the denim (meaning manufactured distressing), the higher the price tag.  Yet, this doesn’t have to be true.  I’ve found several go-to denim brands (worn by myself and my trusted advisory council) that will give you the lived-in look without putting a hole in your wallet!

Clockwise from top left: Zara | Blank Denim | Vigoss | Articles of Society | Gap (sale!) | Express | Madewell (extra 30% off sale price!!) | Topshop | Old Navy (sale!)

Have an inexpensive favorite I haven’t listed? Please share and leave a comment with feedback.

Outfits: Must-Have Additions

P1100701P1100669You know when you purchase something and you immediately put it on, that it was money well-spent.  In fact, that is my criteria for any new additions to my already vast wardrobe.  I leave the tags on my new item, with the receipt tucked inside of a pocket or punctured over the hanger.  If in 2 weeks I haven’t worn the item (ensuring, of course, that this is within the return period), then back it goes to the store.

When this sweater arrived, I knew this was a must-have piece that would get a lot of wear. Although it’s a bold print, it’s just the thing that can take my basic jeans and tee uniform up several notches.  Easily worn as a light jacket or a sweater, both the Aztec pattern and the eyelash texture make it a truly unique and swoon-worthy addition.

Sweater: Ella Moss (sale!) | Shirt: Cloth & Stone (similar) | Denim: Rag & Bone | Sneakers: Converse | Handbag: Milly (similar) | Belt: J.Crew (similar) | Necklaces: Veronica & HaroldMargaret Elizabeth
